Raptiva® (efalizumab)
Chronic moderate to severe plaque psoriasis is a genetic, non-contagious skin disorder of the immune system in which T-cells are triggered and become overactive. This over activity sets off a series of events that eventually makes skin cells multiply so fast they simply pile up on the surface of the skin. As cells multiply faster and faster, they form red, scaly patches called plaques.
This occurs at any age, although primarily adults, and affects men and women equally; age of onset is typically 15-35 with a mean age of approximately 28 years.
